Cameco’s Northern Saskatchewan Scholarship – Application Process Opens
May 17, 2021
Energize your future, through education.
Cameco remains steadfast in its commitment to northern students. Our Northern Saskatchewan Scholarship is a dedicated program, specifically for residents of Saskatchewan’s north who are seeking funding for post-secondary education. The 2021 application process is now open and, as in past years, July 15 as the application deadline.
Last year, La Ronge's Jayde DesRoches used her scholarship towards her first year at the University of Saskatchewan. “For me, this scholarship has relieved stress about some financial decisions, which I am very grateful for. I am an anxious person, so this scholarship has freed up mental space to dedicate to my studies, and have one less thing to worry about.” Doctors are needed in the north and Jayde has long term plans for medical school.
The scholarship offers up to $5,000 per student each year. With the opportunity to renew up to four terms, this means some students could have their entire degree or certificate funded through the program. A total of $50,000 has again been allocated in 2021.
Since launching the program three years ago, Cameco has provided funding for 53 scholarships to northern Saskatchewan students. Their studies are diverse, ranging from nursing and education to mining, geology and management studies. Additional scholarship opportunities are also available to northern students through local community scholarships, funded through Collaboration Agreements with Cameco’s community partners, as well as several other scholarships sponsored by Cameco.
