For proof of just how much Cameco values summer students, look no further than CEO Tim Gitzel.

Gitzel took time from his busy schedule to speak with a group of summer students at our corporate office in Saskatoon this summer, sharing the story of his career and offering his advice.

Gitzel believes young employees are crucial to growing the company, and he shared four values he feels are key to success:

  • finding passion in a job you enjoy;
  • having the courage to make the right decisions, stand up when you hear something that's not right and admit when you're wrong;
  • having the humility to not get too high when times are good; and,
  • appreciating the value of your personal integrity and building up your reputation.

"Don't sit on the sidelines and watch a game go by," he told the students. "Get out there and play. You'll fall down, and there are times you make mistakes - well, don't make that one again and keep going. Make sure you live life and get involved and make a difference. That's our goal. That should be your goal every day - how can I make a difference?"

Mir Sanjeeda Akhter, a business intelligence student this summer, says she had a good experience at Cameco – just like she did last year.

“I like it here - I guess that’s why I’m back!” she says.

Cameco is now recruiting for 2026 summer student openings. Successful candidates will gain hands-on experience, build professional skills, and contribute to meaningful work across our organization.
